Uniform

We believe that our students’ appearance is very important and we expect them to attend school wearing the full school uniform.  Full details of what school uniform is required and the school’s uniform policy are detailed below.

All Year Groups - Uniform Requirements

Top:

• Black logo sweatshirt - Required
• White collared shirt (long or short sleeve), tucked in. Required
• Sapphire blue tie. Required
• Grey blazer - Optional
• Coats – plain, dark in colour. Optional (these should not be worn in lessons)

NB . Hooded tops are not permitted on school site.

Bottom:

• Black tailored trousers (no stretch fashion trousers, leggings or jeans) Required
• Blue tartan kilt. Required
• Black tights or socks (socks must not be worn over tights). Required
• Black polishable footwear. Required

Shoe Guidance

This guidance is intended to help parents choose the most appropriate shoes for their child(ren). It is not possible to provide an exhaustive list of all of the shoes that are or are not acceptable, but by comparing your shoes to the list below, you will get a better understanding of what we accept.

If you remain in any doubt, please contact the school before making your purchase, as we understand the difficulties caused by purchasing the wrong item, particularly expensive items such as shoes.

PE Kit:

• Black Pewsey Vale PE polo shirt. Required
• Black PE shorts, leggings or track pants (No logo). Required
• PE trainers. Required
• Football boots
• Black football socks or white socks (Plain). Required
• Shin pads – it is advisable for your child to have a pair of shin pads for football lessons.
• Plain black leggings or tracksuit bottoms (no branding or logos). Optional
• Plain black sweatshirt or quarter zip training top (no hoodies). Optional

Clothing and Uniform:

• All items of clothing and equipment must be clearly labelled with the student's name
• Any lost property will be kept in the main school office and we ask that students collect their belongings in a timely manner.
• Students may have the use of a locker to store their possessions – lockers can be rented from Independent Locker Solutions by clicking on the following link - https://www.ilsschools.co.uk/ The school cannot be held responsible for student's possessions if they are left unattended and they should never leave valuables or money in their bag or coat.
• Coloured T-shirts may not be worn underneath school shirts and white T-shirts or vests must not be visible.

The headteacher may temporarily vary any of the above, during extreme weather conditions.

Jewellery:

• We allow a watch (not a ‘smart’ watch); a plain pair of ear studs or sleeper ear rings; a single necklace on a thin chain if worn for religious reasons.
• Only a small nose stud can be worn that can be removed for PE lessons, if one must be worn at all. Please ensure your child is able to remove their nose stud for health and safety reasons
• All jewellery needs be removed for every PE lesson. We do not advise students to have new piercings during term time, they should be carried out with sufficient time for the wound to stabilise so that plasters or additional studs do not need to be worn during PE lessons. If an item cannot be removed due to any other circumstances, the piercing should then be taped and the responsibility will be placed on the parent/carer and pupil taking part in PE.

Personal Grooming:

• Make-up (if worn) must be discreet. Nail varnish should only be subtle eg clear, pale pink or french tips.
• Through the admission process, parents/carers make a commitment on behalf of their son/daughter to comply with the jewellery and uniform policy for the entire time that they are at the school. If students are intending to have a piercing over the summer holiday period, it should be carried out with sufficient time for the wound to stabilise so that plasters or additional studs do not need to be worn on the return to school. Such piercings should not be visible when the school uniform is conventionally worn.
• Haircuts should not have lines or patterns cut into hair. No unnatural hair colouring, rainbow colours or dip dyes. Long hair should be tied back for PE and for some other lessons such as science experiments or food.

Mobile Devices:

As you are aware, all schools are now mobile-free sites for students. As the Government continues to introduce tighter controls within schools, we are considering ways to reduce opportunities for students to access their phones during the school day. Some schools are banning phones from being brought onto school grounds, while others are introducing mobile phone pouches that block signal access.

At present, Acorn Education Trust is taking the approach that all phones must be kept in students' school bags and turned off throughout the school day. This allows students to bring phones to school, enabling them to contact parents and carers before and after school, while ensuring they do not have direct access to their phones during lessons or break times.

Therefore, all students are expected to have a suitable school bag from the start of September. If any families are unable to provide a bag for their child, please let us know and we will do our best to help.

Lesson Equipment:

Every student is expected to arrive in school with the basic equipment below to enable them to access every lesson:

• Pencil Case
• Pen
• Pencil
• Ruler
• Calculator

Tippex/Liquid Paper is not allowed in school and must not be used in any school work. Textbooks and specialised equipment will be issued on loan and students will be required to pay for any loss or damage.

Help and Support:

We have a selection of uniform samples in school for students to try on and gauge the correct sizes before ordering. For parents who do not have internet access, we will offer you the opportunity to come and use our computers.
